I’m afraid of looking too starched. Her pieces are in some of the hippest boutiques around the world and she has been featured in several magazines. Normally I interview in my black suit but I’m not sure that’s appropriate.

Help! Her office is by the beach, but it’s still an office…any suggestions by someone who has been there would help! Or anyone who has an idea of what to wear to an interview with someone who is kind of "in the biz."
The position I’m interviewing for involves office and creative work, and that is why I don’t want to appear too "professional" – somewhat hip and original.
I have not been into her office before, and I have no idea what the dress code is, or what her other employees wear.

Do I wear heels? Heeled sandals? Pumps?

Hey…don’t sweat it, this summer I had to interview for an internship with a famous fashion house and I got it! The point is to tap into your Boho vibe and not hers. First of all, it’s an interview, so try to stray away from jeans! Your still trying to get a job, so don’t go "casual Friday" until you’ve actually got the job. Opt for a suit in a brighter color, or if you still want to stick to the monochromatic shades, go for a well-tailored white suit with pretty gold accessories, metallic is in this season. Whether you wear jewlery or not, it’s up to you…i would wear jewlery just to look pulled-together, even if it’s just a watch or stud earrings. Accessories are up to you, but use them as a way to show your creative side: bright shoes, a ribbon-tied necklace, just anything that shows that you’re more than a chick in a suit. Top it off with a fun bag in place of a suitcase, just be sure it doesn’t look to un-done! That should be cool for the interview! Good Luck!

**Hope that helps**

If you’re wondering whether you could get away with "simple" drawings rather than "excellent" or "realistic" renderings, then there are a few reasons.

First of all, great drawings will "sell" and "communicate" your idea, which is especially important if you’re trying to get it produced and fabricated by somebody else who will be providing the investment. People will want to get a good idea of what it will look like. The better the drawings, the better they’ll be able to "see" this. This helps you to sell your ideas to a client or retailer who may not be capable of "visualizing" your piece very well without being provided a good illustration.

Second, it improves your overall image. If your illustration is attractive, it promotes you as somebody who is professional and has a good aesthetic sense. The impression your client receives of you or the company you represent is often times just as important as the impression they receive of the particular piece of jewelry you want to produce. High quality illustration tells them that you are dedicated, driven, thorough and professional.

Third, it can help you to develop and revise your own vision of the final piece. Once you see a more realistic representation of your idea on paper, it might not look how you originally thought it would. When you see things you might not have noticed before, it gives you further ideas. You might discover something that you want to change, improve or add.

Finally, learning to make your own illustrations will give you more personal control over the process and save you time and money, since you won’t need to rely on somebody else to produce drawings for you.

(You could also use 3D drawing software to create your renderings, which would be a good option if you don’t have excellent hand illustration skills.)

On the other hand, it may depend on the type of jewelry you’re designing. If it’s possible for you to easily produce prototypes of your designs, then you could photograph the prototypes instead of making drawings.

Isabella has some good tips, but remember, if it is an online business, traffic is the key.

If it is not an online business, maybe see if you can find any type of trade shows dealing with jewelry. Call to see if you can rent a table to show off your line.

I have attached a link to a list of tradeshows I found on the web, if the idea interests you. Make up some business cards too.
